Wind Power

Using A Wind Generator

Wind generators date back to ancient times and are not anything new as far as their basic function of wind power. Today, they come in a range of sizes and shapes. Home wind turbines are not as plentiful as wind farms in the U.S. but hopefully this will change in the near future and wind electricity will become as common as the use of coal in producing electricity.

Over the last few years, the U.S. has experienced an exponentially increase in wind energy. In 2008, one-eighth of renewable energy was the result of wind energy power.  The largest wind energy producing states in the past were Texas and California. However, in 2008 Iowa passed California up with an installed capacity of 2790 MW.

The largest projects have been developed in Texas, the Great Plains and California. And, many other states either have smaller projects underway or in the consideration stage.

Roscoe Wind Farm (780 MW) is home to Texas's largest operational wind farm and surprisingly the world's largest wind farm.

Build Your Own Wind Generator

Just last year, 2009 the United States suggested to have a goal of doubling production of renewable energy during the next three years. And it is projected that most of the production will be from wind energy.

Understandably so, most of the new wind power projects are being built in the region of the Great Plains. Not only is wind in an abundant supply there, rail and highway networking can cater to the shipping of outsized turbine components. And, local farmers and ranchers have shown broad acceptance of the wind projects. Other locations that are experiencing wind development include the Northeast, Upper Midwest and the Pacific Northwest.

So as you can see, wind power energy is making significant progress in the United States.
